When is the Saucon Valley Spirit Parade?

The Saucon Valley Spirit Parade (formerly the Hellertown Halloween Parade) will soon be marching down Main Street in the borough. This year it will be combined with the 4-County Firemen's Parade.

It's no longer the Hellertown Halloween Parade—but the Saucon Valley Spirit Parade is just as much fun.

The annual parade, which is a true Saucon Valley tradition, will march on Main Street in the borough on Sunday, Oct. 20 starting at 2 p.m.

This year the parade will be expanded to include the 4-County Firemen's Parade, featuring dozens of fire trucks and other equipment from municipalities throughout Northampton, Lehigh, Carbon and Monroe counties.

An entire weekend of fun, family-friendly activities—the Spirit Weekend—has also been planned around this year's parade.

Some of the highlights will be:
  • Fireworks
  • A "Show Your Spirit Dance" at the Saucon Valley Community Center
  • A concert by the Allentown Band in Dimmick Park
  • A 5K race
  • A motorcycle poker run
  • Vera Bradley/Coach Bingo
  • A car/truck show
For a complete lineup of what's planned, including dates and times, visit the Saucon Valley Spirit website.

This year's parade route will be the same as last year's.

Lineup will take place on Walnut Street near the Saucon Valley School District campus.

The marchers will then proceed down Walnut to Main Street, which will be closed between Walnut and Water streets during the parade.

The route will take the parade north on Main to Water, where it will turn east and proceed to Constitution Avenue via Rentzheimer Drive and Durham Street.

The route will end near the schools, at the completion of the "loop."

Is it not allowed to be called a Halloween Parade any longer? Because everyone will be in costumes, and every fire truck will be throwing candy. Do people dress up and throw candy in Spirit Parades? I thought those were Halloween Parades. Will my account be banned because I said Halloween? I never liked the candy as a kid. The fire trucks were so much cooler.

Guess your a new native. It has been called the spirit parade at least a year.

Yea I must be new. 5th generation new, but that's neither here nor there. I didn't attend last year. But for the 5 years that I actually participated in the parade, it was a Halloween Parade. Why was the name changed, Cindy?

@LSNative: Here's some further reading regarding the name change, which was approved by borough council last year (July 2012): http://hellertown.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/council-supports-halloween-parade-name-change

well, LSNative, since you get all of your information from youtube, facebook, wikipedia, and hustler, We aren't surprised that you couldn't comprehend the "words" in the multiple articles detailing the change in the name. I am glad you are proud to be "5-th generation" but inbreeding doesn't give you any advantage.

Gerry - there is no hope for you. Your personal attacks, insults, and assumptions about others make you look like a fool. Inbreeding? Really? In another post, you insult my education and now claim that I get all my information from youtube, facebook, wikipedia, and hustler (proper nouns, by the way, but I'm sure you knew that). Get a life. Stop being a troll. You do understand what a troll is (re: internet forums)? If not, I'm sure there is a Wikipedia article to explain it to you.

From what I understand, the reason for the change last year was in anticipation of joining up with the Four County Firemen's Parade this year. I still don't see the connection.
