Viewfinder: Celebrating Chinese New Year

About 250 FCC-LV family members gathered in South Whitehall to welcome the Year of The Rabbit.

Families with Children from China-Lehigh Valley chapter (FCC-LV), welcomed in the Chinese New Year with an hours-long celebration Saturday in South Whitehall Township.

Photographer Betty Cauler captured the scene as about 250 people--including children and parents--filled a hall at First Baptist Church to welcome the Year of the Rabbit.

The Northern Shaolin Academy in Audubon performed a traditional lion dance to the beat of a drum, and demonstrated several forms of kung fu. Chinese students from Lehigh University performed a traditional folk dance. And students from the Huaxia Chinese School-Lehigh Valley Branch, which meets at Northampton Community College, performed a dance as well.

The FCC-LV also helped raise money for China Cares, which provides medical care for orphaned children with special needs.
