Get Out: Celebrate Father's Day Weekend

Enjoy the Sabor! Latin Festival, live music, the Hawk Mountain Hill Climb and the Not So Secret Garden Tour.

This Father’s Day weekend there are plenty of events and activities to show Dad a good time and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Summer sizzles with Sabor! Latin Festival, a Latino culture explosion on the South Side of Bethlehem with free music that will have you dancing in the streets. The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley will also feature free live music during its . For some jamming music in a more intimate setting, enjoy Cliff Eberhardt on Friday and Sarah Ayers on Saturday night at Godfrey Daniels.

Hidden treasures will abound at the 18th Annual New To You Sale at Burnside Plantation, the Valhalla of garage sales. After you check out the goods for sale, take the kids over to the Mock Turtle Marionette Theatre for a little Museum Music.

For the adventuresome father bent on getting out in the rugged outdoors, celebrate at the Hawk Mountain Hill Climb for a 5K run or walk. For the avid gardener interested in all things botanical, the Not So Secret Garden Tour will give Dad all sorts of ideas for weekend projects to spruce up the landscaping.

Whatever you decide this weekend, make sure you tell dear old Dad that you love him and thank him for all that he does and the memories you’ve made together.

SABOR! (LATIN FESTIVAL)

  • WHERE/WHEN: SteelStacks campus, First Street and Founders Way, Bethlehem, Friday 6:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., Saturday 12:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., and Sunday 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • WHY GO: The tastes, the flavors and the sounds of Latino culture will sizzle at SteelStacks in a three day event featuring concerts by Tito Puente, Jr. and his Orchestra and others. Don’t miss unique events like the Dominoes Tournament, a car show by the Puerto Rican Cultural Coalition, flag making and other kids crafts.  
  • COST: Free, except for concerts in the Musikfest Café and movies at the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema. Visit artsquest.org for details.

 

QNB SUMMER CONCERT SERIES (THE PROMENADE SHOPS)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Town Square at The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley, 2845 Center Valley Parkway, Center Valley, Friday, 7:00 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Listen to a free concert by Sal Ritz and Joe Mixon, an acoustic blues duo sure to please the ear. Take advantage of concert night specials at local restaurants starting at 5:00 p.m.
  • COST: Free

 

CLIFF EBERHARDT/SARAH AYERS BAND ()

  • WHERE/WHEN: Godfrey Daniels, 7 E. 4th St., Bethlehem, Friday, 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Friday night, Cliff Eberhardt brings his Greenwich Village-style sound with guest Jann Klose. Saturday, local blues songstress Sarah Ayers and her band belt out the tunes.  
  • COST: Friday show, $17.50; Saturday show, $16.50

 

HAWK MOUNTAIN HILL CLIMB (FUNDRAISER)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Hawk Mountain Sanctuary1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, Saturday, 8:00 a.m. registration, event starts at 10:00 a.m.
  • WHY GO: Enjoy the great outdoors with a challenging 5K run or walk on the North Lookout Trail to raise funds for the Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. After the run, party with a live bluegrass band and enjoy plenty of mountain fun!
  • COST: Minimum donation $40, plus trail fee: $5 Adults, $4 Seniors, $3 Children (ages 6-12).

 

NOT SO SECRET GARDEN TOUR (SOUTHERN LEHIGH PUBLIC LIBRARY)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Southern Lehigh Public Library, 3200 Preston Lane, Center Valley, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
  • WHY GO: Tour the gardens of Upper Saucon Township and Coopersburg while getting gardening tips from master and amateur gardeners who have transformed their yards into unique habitats featuring everything from a diesel train landscape to a butterfly habitat and arboretum. 
  • COST: Advance tickets $12, or $14 the day of the event. Children 12 and under free.

 

MUSEUM OF MUSIC (MOCK TURTLE MARIONETTE THEATRE)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Charles Brown Ice House, 56 River Road, Sand Island, Bethlehem, Saturday, 3:00 p.m.
  • WHY GO: A concert, a play and a puppet show all in one. The puppets and actors come to life with the musicians as they animate great classical music from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Enjoy the performance and stay for the workshop and refreshments.
  • COST: Children under 17, $7.50; adults, $10. Make reservations by emailing doug@mockturtle.org.

 

18th ANNUAL NEW TO YOU SALE (BURNSIDE PLANTATION)

  • WHERE/WHEN: Burnside Plantation, 1461 Schoenersville Road, Bethlehem, Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Sunday, 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m., and Monday, 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
  • WHY GO: One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. If you are looking for some treasures, you may just uncover them at Burnside Plantation. Go on Saturday to have your pick, go on Sunday because everything is half price and go on Monday for “bag day.”
