Get Out: Basket Bingo Benefit on Tap for a Hellertown Teen

Rain or shine, there is something for everyone to do this weekend!

The weather this week has undoubtedly put a damper on outdoor plans, but even if the rain continues to fall right through Sunday, there will still be many options for those who want to get out, explore and do something different this weekend.

The "dine and dash" concept will take on a whole new meaning if it's still raining, but if the drops don't bother you, then consider attending the --an event that will include wine, beer, hors d’ oeuvres and a great deal of Civil War history. If the weather turns out to be nice, take the kids to Burnside Plantation for a free outdoor screening of Seabiscuit and a glimpse of the Bethlehem Mounted Police Unit's real-life horses.

If talent is what you are seeking Friday night, look no further than the --an event that will benefit the performing arts at . Talent will also abound at the Musikfest Café on Friday, and at  both Friday and Saturday.

Saturday morning’s at Southern Lehigh Library might fall during the middle of our rain spell, but what better time to think about conserving those drops? Another educational workshop, the Leader of the Pack Canine Institute hosted by the Red Cross of the Lehigh Valley, will teach you how to administer emergency medical care--including CPR--to your pets.

Finally, on Sunday afternoon, relax with an afternoon of  in Hellertown. Vera Bradley and Longaberger baskets will be offered as prizes, and the event will benefit .

Why Go: If you prefer your meals on the go and served by individuals in Civil War era dress, then Dine and Dash is for you. Wine and cheese, finger foods and desserts will be offered, along with lectures at three locations: the Kemerer Museum of Decorative Arts, the Moravian Museum and the Goundie House.

Why Go: It’s like the drive-in, but with horses. Take the kids to meet the Bethlehem Mounted Police Unit’s three horses and then, once the sun sets, settle down for an outdoor screening of Seabiscuit.

Where/When: Auditorium, 2100 Polk Valley Road, Hellertown, Friday, 7:00 p.m.

Why Go: See which students and staff members have talent at Saucon Valley to help benefit the Saucon Valley performing arts.

Where/When: 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, Friday, 7:30 p.m., doors open at 6:00 p.m.

Why Go: If you like Sheryl Crow, Joni Mitchell and the Indigo Girls, you will love the folk/acoustic sound of Dala. The intimate venue provides a personal connection for this female duo’s angelic harmony.

Pricing: $30 VIP box/$20 cabaret, $10 food and drink minimum.

Where/When: Upper Saucon Township Park, Preston Lane, Center Valley, Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Why Go: With all the rain this week, you may be thinking, “If only I could have collected this water in a big huge barrel!”  Wonder no more! This workshop is perfect for you.

Where/When: Godfrey Daniels, 7 E. Fourth St., Bethlehem, Friday, 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 p.m.  

Why Go: This weekend you'll have two chances to see live music from extremely talented folk artists at Godfrey Daniels. Friday night is Kevin Gordon, a songwriter and critically acclaimed performer. Saturday Diana Jones will hit hard with her melodic rants of love, loss and remembrance.

Where/When: 502 Durham St., Hellertown, Sunday, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Why Go: Longaberger basket and Vera Bradley prizes--need I say more? If I told you that playing bingo would also help raise funds to offset the medical costs for Amanda Illingworth, , wouldn’t you feel even better about winning?

Pricing: $20 in advance, $25 at the door, 20 games.
