Summer Reading Kick Off

New this year is a Summer Reading Club for adults with weekly raffle prizes donated by local attractions, businesses and restaurants. Win free passes to the Iron Pigs or Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom just for reading your favorite author. Share book reviews or take part in bi-weekly trivia quizzes and games. To get started, drop by the information desk at the Main Library, 11 W. Church Street, or the South Side Branch, 400 Webster Street.

The Library also presents Dream Big—READ!, the 2012 Summer Reading Program, for young people, preschool through grade 6, with special programs, prizes, storytimes, family concerts, interactive science programs, crafts, a camp-out, and a beach party. Popular programs, such as Read to Dogs and Back Porch Stories return this summer. New this year are Monday Fundays at the Main Library and Stories on the Greenway at the South Side Branch. The Branch starts weekly story and crafts on June 12. The first Family program offering at the Main Library is on June 19 with storyteller Kitty Jones who deftly draws the audience into her witty re-enactment of life on the Oregon Trail.

Teens can read for prizes, too, at both locations. The teen reading club theme is Own the Night. Games, a Murder Mystery, Open Mic Night, and a Ghost Hunting expedition are some of the activities planned.
