Beer Garden Could Be Part of Family Weekend

The beer garden would be set up in the Dewey Fire Company parking lot in Hellertown during the weekend of Oct. 19-20.

As part of the Family Weekend festivities being planned around the Sunday, Oct. 20 Four-County Firemen's and Saucon Valley Spirit parades in Hellertown, Dewey Fire Co. may host a beer garden.

Hellertown Borough Council Vice President John Bate mentioned the idea at Borough Council's meeting Tuesday.

He said the tented beer garden would be set up in the fire company's parking lot, assuming approval is received from the state and the borough.

A special one-day liquor license is needed from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and the borough will have to temporarily suspend its ban on outside open containers of alcohol in order for the beer garden to be set up, it was explained.

Councilman Tom Rieger said he didn't foresee any problems with the beer garden, since other small boroughs such as Emmaus regularly host festivities at which alcohol is served without incident.
