Snowstorm Possible Later This Week, Forecasters Say

According to some local weather forecasters, a snowstorm on Thursday is a real possibility.

Saucon Valley students are scheduled to return to classes Thursday—following a nearly two-week holiday break—but Mother Nature could throw a monkey wrench into those plans if she decides to send a winter storm our way.

According to some local weather forecasters, a significant snowstorm on Thursday is a real possibility.

As of Monday afternoon, the National Weather Service forecast for Hellertown included a 60 percent chance of snow on Thursday and a 50 percent chance of snow on Thursday night.

Temperatures are also forecast to plunge by Friday, when the high is expected to be in the upper teens.

On Friday night, the low temperature is forecast to be in the single digits.

The Eastern PA Weather Authority announced in a Facebook post Monday morning that the winter storm being modeled for later in the week has the potential to be a significant one.

"Today is a big day on the models, and depending on what they do today and tonight will say a lot for the eventuality of this storm...and will also determine whether or not we go all in on a full-scale snowstorm," the team of forecasters wrote.

"[We] still have some things to sort out, but the trends are looking very good," they added.

The EPAWA offers updates via text and email alerts to paid subscribers to its My Pocket Meteorologist service, and the forecasters said they will be sending out forecast alerts for this storm and others throughout the winter.
