Reading Drive Trailhead Expected to Reopen Soon

An expanded and upgraded Reading Drive Trailhead is expected to reopen along the popular Saucon Rail Trail in mid-May, according to the Lower Saucon Township website.

The Lower Saucon Township Public Works Department is making swift work of a project to upgrade the Reading Drive trailhead along the Saucon Rail Trail, according to an update posted on the township's website last week.

According to the update, since it was closed last month public works crews have been "busy constructing and paving the trailhead parking lot, which is expected to be re-opened to the public in mid-May."

When completed, the new trailhead will provide restroom facilities and a picnic area.

"The Saucon Rail Trail Oversight Commission is currently conducting a fundraising campaign for a water fountain to be located at the trailhead, and it is hoped that an information kiosk similar to the ones located at the Hellertown and Upper Saucon trailheads can be added to the site in the future through the efforts of a Boy Scout project," according to Lower Saucon Township.

The 2.2 acre trailhead property, which is located near the intersection of Reading Drive and Bingen Road, was acquired by the township in 2012.
