Rail Trail Website Goes Live

The Saucon Rail Trail's brand new website is www.sauconrailtrail.org.

A website for the popular Saucon Rail Trail is now live, trail oversight commission chairman Roger Jurczak told Patch Dec. 5.

The address for the new website is www.sauconrailtrail.org.

In addition to photos, the homepage for the website features a large and detailed map of the trail, along with links to other pages filled with information.

The pages list information about:

  • Volunteer opportunities
  • The mile markers along the trail
  • News and announcements
  • Upcoming events
  • Tribute programs, such as memorial benches
  • The history of the rail line that was transformed into the trail
  • Ways to report a problem on the trail
  • Wintertime recreational opportunities
  • Trail rules
  • Future projects

The Saucon Rail Trail stretches from Hellertown south to Upper Saucon Township Community Park in Center Valley. Plans for its expansion include an extension from Center Valley south to Coopersburg.

Since its opening in May 2011, the trail--which is open year-round, from dawn to dusk--has been embraced by local walkers, joggers, bicyclists and nature-lovers.

Access points with parking in the Saucon Valley include Water Street Park and Grist Mill Park in Hellertown, and the Reading Drive trailhead in Lower Saucon Township.

The first stement on the trail website should inform people using that trail that they have to stop at each intersection of the road, not blunder into the cross walk like blind idiot sheep. This fall, I observed a self-righteous jogger just run right into the intersection and get mad when a motorcycle nearly hit him. You trail zombies are retarded.

Come onn I thought we talked about this and that it was a done deal: the rules STILL state "No carrying...of firearms..." on the trail. That is incorrect, illegal, and does not comply with the state's pre-emption law. This is an easy fix, but I thought this had already been resolved when the township's Solicitor told the town council what the law was, and that their rules needed to change to be in compliance with those laws. Fix it, folks. That's all I require. And soon.

The rail trail is certainly deserving of its own website. For those who haven't been on it, do know that it's a gem. It's great to see so many walkers, joggers, runners, bikers sharing this beautiful ribbon of nature. Thanks to all of those who have put in your time to give it to us!
