Photo of the Day: Hellertown Hex Sign

This colorful piece of folk art is painted on the side of an old barn near Walnut and Front streets, next to the new Saucon Rail Trail.

How many times have you driven east on Walnut Street in Hellertown without noticing the little red barn on the right-hand side of the road near Front Street?

Painted on the side of the aged outbuilding is what appears to be a Pennsylvania Dutch hex sign--but this colorful piece of folk art also looks a lot like the old Texaco "star."

The runs right past the little red barn, which means many more people will probably notice it as they walk, bike or jog by in the coming months and years.

Walking is a great way to notice things that are simply invisible when we're whizzing by at speeds of 30 or 40 miles per hour.

For that reason, the rail trail promises to become an important resource for helping connect local residents with their communities.
