LSTHS Plans History Day Events at Lutz-Franklin School

The Lower Saucon Township Historical Society will sponsor a number of special events at the Lutz-Franklin Schoolhouse museum on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In addition to events at the Heller Homestead (Saucon Valley Conservancy) and the Heller-Wagner Grist Mill (Hellertown Historical Society), on Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saucon Valley History Day will be celebrated by the Lower Saucon Township Historical Society at the Lutz-Franklin Schoolhouse museum on Countryside Lane.

The historical society plans to hold a cake walk, a baked goods sale and maypole dances for adults and children (from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m.) led by Miss Kelly of Saucon Valley Dance Conservatory at the 1880 restored schoolhouse.

  • St. Theresa School students singing (10 a.m.).
  • A presentation about the history of the Slinky and "Slinky races" organized by Bob Swaim (noon to 2 p.m.).
  • Bicycle and juggling demonstrations by Bob Swaim.
  • A Model T displayed by local collector Ron Smith.
  • Live guitar music performed by John Samuels (noon to 2 p.m.).

Guests will also be able to build a bluebird house and a rain barrel for their garden. The rain barrels will cost $35. The bluebird houses are free.

Demonstrations in quilting, spinning, tole painting and colonial crafts will be ongoing in the schoolhouse, where children will be able to write with quill pens.
