Tickets are now on sale for the Saucon Valley Conservancy's 7th annual tour, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine).

Are you fascinated by old barns? Then mark your calendar for the 7th annual Barn Tour of Saucon Valley Barns, sponsored by the Saucon Valley Conservancy, which will be "a great opportunity for the public to tour a selection of historic barns that are an important part of the area’s rich agricultural history," according to a news release.

Tickets are now on sale for the tour, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine).

Tickets are $20 each (two for $35) if purchased in advance, and will be $25 each on the day of the tour. Click here for the ticket order form.

The tour will begin at the Beethoven Waldheim Club Pavilion, 1984 Waldheim Road, Hellertown, with registration and a book signing at 9:30 a.m. Two lectures will be given by barn experts Robert Ensminger and Gregory Huber at 10 a.m.

Some highlights of this year’s self-guided tour will include: an adaptive reuse of barn framing timbers creating a modern, commercially used building; a small English bank barn at a former historic tavern site; a standard Pennsylvania barn which has been converted into a private residence with a unique gable ramp with stone arch beneath the barn bank; a frame standard PA barn on a farmstead which includes original out-buildings and farmhouse; and a small frame standard PA barn with unusual bank bridge and numerous typical outbuildings including original farmhouse and summer kitchen.

Also on the tour is the Heller barn site with some of its original stone walls. Its front wall remnant with iconic stone arch was recently stabilized. The Heller barn is located on the grounds of the Heller Homestead, 1890-92 Friedensville Road, Lower Saucon Township.

Proceeds from the barn tour will be earmarked for the preservation and restoration of the Michael Heller Barn.

A guide book with a map will be provided to barn tour participants at registration. The self-guided tour will begin at 11:30 a.m. A host at each barn will be available to show visitors around.
