'Big Fox' Spotted in Hellertown

A resident photographed a fox at the south end of town early Tuesday morning.

A Patch reader reported seeing a "big fox" early Tuesday morning at the south end of Hellertown.

Tammy Rissmiller Shine posted a photo of the animal running on the Hellertown Patch Facebook page and asked that others be made aware of the sighting.

She said the fox was seen on Spruce, Ellen, Northampton and Walnut streets before running into Union Cemetery shortly before 6:30 a.m.

Authorities in Bethlehem reported over the weekend that a fox that attacked two men in separate incidents on the city's west side tested positive for rabies after being destroyed.

Hellertown residents should call local police at 610-838-7040 if they see an animal exhibiting unusual or suspicious behavior.

Police received numerous reports of suspected rabid skunks earlier this year, although it was later confirmed that two of the animals did not have the disease.
