I-78 Project Expected to Last Through July 2013

PennDOT has announced the following scheduled road work in the Saucon Valley area, including an I-78 slab stabilization project that will result in nighttime restrictions in Lehigh County well into next year.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the following road projects will be taking place in the local area this week. Motorists should expect delays and drive with caution if traveling through active work zones.

  • Expect nighttime (8pm to 6am) lane restrictions in both directions on I-78 between Route 22 and the Northampton County line starting Monday, Oct. 22. PennDOT said the restrictions will be in place until the project's completion date, which is expected to be July 1, 2013. "This restriction will only occur on weekday nights," PennDOT said. The work is part of a $1,337,907 slab stabilization project and will also include dowel retrofits, concrete patching, joint sealing and cleaning and pavement of relief joints.
  • Through Oct. 27, expect daytime and nighttime delays on I-78 EAST between the Rt. 611 exit (Exit 75/Easton) and the New Jersey state line. PennDOT said lane restrictions will be in place for construction work by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission. For additional information, visit www.drjtbc.org.
  • On Oct. 23 between noon and 3pm expect a lane restriction on I-78 WEST between the Rt. 412 exit (Exit 67/Hellertown) and the Rt. 309 exit (Exit 60). PennDOT said there will be a lane restriction for a guide rail repair being performed by a contractor.
  • From Monday, Oct. 22 through Thursday, Oct. 25 between 9am and 3pm motorists should expect lane restrictions with flagging on Rt. 378 between Broadway in the City of Bethlehem and the Lehigh County line. PennDOT said the restrictions will be for drainage work.
