Hellertown History to Be Unearthed on Cemetery Tours

Tours of Hellertown Union Cemetery on Aug. 15-16 will feature re-enactors representing well-known former residents who are buried in the graveyard.

Five well-known former residents of Hellertown will be portrayed by re-enactors during tours of Hellertown Union Cemetery Aug. 15 and 16.

The annual tours are a way to highlight Hellertown history, and are traditionally held as a lead-up to Hellertown-Lower Saucon Community Day, which this year will be held Saturday, Aug. 17.

This year's re-enactors will portray at graveside the lives of the late Harold Clarke (Wayne Packer), Harry Gregory (Terry Boos), Maynard Underkoffler (Craig Medei), Irma Diehl (Dr. Susan Ackermann) and Junious Boatwright (David Pearson), according to a flyer about the tours, which are sponsored by the Hellertown-Lower Saucon Chamber of Commerce.

Tours will be given from 6 to 8 p.m. both nights, leaving every 8 to 10 minutes from the Cremation Gardens area of the cemetery.

Attendees are recommended to wear comfortable walking shoes.

Hellertown Union Cemetery is located at Main and Walnut streets.
