Spring officially began with the vernal equinox at 7:02am Wednesday, but it won't feel much like it since daytime highs will be stuck in the 40s all week. Last year they were in the 70s! Daytime highs for our area average close to 50 in March.

"The pattern may translate to a longer heating season, higher heating bills and more time, money and effort into snow removal later into the season than usual in some communities," Sosnowski writes.

The local weather could improve slighty by the end of the week, with sunny skies and cool temperatures forecast for Friday and Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
