Great Escape: Haunted Hills Estate

Haunted Hills Estate in Uniontown promises visitors scary adventures and encounters with "real" ghosts.

Are you someone who "can't get enough" of Halloween? Then consider a road trip to Haunted Hills Estate at 236 Rolling Hills Estate Road in Uniontown, Fayette County.

Legend has it that in the early 1900s Eleanor and Edgar Hill held an annual autumn festival on their 100-acre estate where visitors would roam the many trails. Then, one eerie night, Edgar reportedly discovered his wife hanging from the rafters.

According to the legend, Edgar went insane and the next year took revenge on all the visitors for Eleanor’s death. He buried their bodies all over the estate and it's said the ghosts of the Hills and all the visitors haunt the estate grounds to this day. The 13 surviving Hill children let the property go to waste.

Recently, however, it was reopened by a Halloween entrepreneur known as Spookygirl, who along with her "haunt team" invites those brave enough to survive three interactive haunted adventures to visit.

The Legends adventure will take you through the 200-year-old barn where Eleanor was supposedly found hanging, the Challenge Trail will test would-be pirates' skills at finding buried treasure, and in the Chamber of Chills visitors will be confronted with the seven deadly sins, and be introduced to an eighth in the last deadly chamber.

Interactive adventures at Haunted Hills Estate begin at 7:30pm. Admission to one Friday or Saturday adventure costs $15, $20 for two and $25 for all three. Thursday and Sunday admission is $14, $18 or $22, respectively. Visitors in a rush to be scared can also purchase a Spirit Pass for an extra $15, and float to the front of the line any night of the week.

It's important to note that the adventures are not suitable for children under 12 years of age. Adventures will close starting at 10pm, but remain open until the last "victim" exits the gate.

Outside the entrance to Haunted Hills Estate, on "Spooky Street," visitors can warm up next to a bonfire and grab some comfort food at Black Cauldron Concessions. Roaming creatures and apparitions are not uncommon in these parts, so be on guard!

Still not scared?

Then consider enjoying dinner and entertainment at the Outdoor Dark Murder Mystery Adventure, served up by staff from the Dead and Decayed Catering Company. Solve the mystery of the dead Grounds Keeper and you could win a prize. Just be sure to register at 6:30pm for the adventure, which begins at 7pm. The cost for dinner and the show is $25.
