Free Tax Help Available in Hellertown

It's tax season, and many taxpayers are looking for help and advice as they prepare their returns for Uncle Sam.

Assistance with tax preparation doesn't have to cost a fortune, though.

According to a flyer posted in the lobby at Hellertown Borough Hall, free tax help is available through April 15 for low- and middle-income residents at a variety of nearby locations, including Lower Saucon United Church of Christ, 1375 Third Ave., Hellertown.

Each Monday from 9 a.m. to noon, trained volunteer counselors are available at the church to help with the preparation of tax returns and applications for Pennsylvania's property tax/rent rebate program, according to the flyer.

The program is sponsored by the AARP and the IRS.

Anyone interested in taking advantage of it should bring their 2011 tax return with them, as well as comprehensive information detailing their income and expenses for 2012.

• Fountain Hill Tower, Seneca and North Hoffert streets, Fountain Hill, Mondays, 1:30 to 4:30pm
• Senior Citizens Center, 720 Old York Road, Bethlehem, Tuesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. to noon
• College Hill Moravian Church, 72 W. Laurel St., Bethlehem, Thursdays, 1 to 4 p.m.
• Church of the Manger UCC, 1401 Greenview Drive, Bethlehem, Tuesdays, 1 to 7 p.m.

The tax prep service centers will be closed on Friday, March 29 (Good Friday).
