Beloved 'Man on Easton Road' Mourned by Local Residents

A man who for years waved to passing motorists from a plastic armchair on the side of Easton Road in Lower Saucon Township is being remembered by those whose days he brightened.

Most people didn't know his name, but that never seemed to matter.

The "Man on Easton Road" was simply a friendly person who brightened their day by waving to them—from the comfort of his white plastic armchair—as they drove down Easton Road in Lower Saucon Township.

That friendly wave has been stilled forever, according to several readers, who have confirmed on Facebook that the elderly man, also known as George, recently passed away.

"On Sundays he would walk down to the Lutheran church and hold the door open for you," wrote Crystal Carl Henn. "Very sweet man. Sad to hear he passed."

And Rhea Coral said: "May he rest in peace. I'll still wave past his house though. Just to keep the tradition up. I'm sure his spirit is still there waving to us."

Another reader said her children would be "crushed" by his absence, since they loved waving to him.

A Facebook page devoted to the "Man on Easton Road," who was "just awesome" according to its creator, has a new cover photo that seems to confirm that George has passed.

Although no updates had been posted since April 27, 2010, on June 12 the cover photo for the page was changed to a photo of billowing clouds, seemingly representative of heaven.
