Rail Trail Spotter......Critters and Plants on our Lovely Trail!

What have you seen on the Rail Trail this week?

I had some great rides on the rail trail in the past week or so.  I saw lots of vegetation as well as a variety of wildlife.  Plants like honeysuckle vines, wild cucumber vines, pokeberry bushes full of ripening fruit as well as a variety of wild flowers to enjoy.  My favorite flowers were a few marigold plants someone donated alongside the trail in a couple of spots in the Lower Saucon section.

The coloring leaves of trees along the Trail are coming down and a few more black walnuts are plummeting to earth. I was glad for my bike helmet the other day, one just missed me!

Geese, ducks and catbirds, squirrels, deer and chipmonks are there in abundance. This Sunday I saw a good sized snake on the trail.  Not my favorite animal to run into….

Some people still don’t get it that you stay to the right and pass on the left.  That rule is necessary especially when the trail is crowded.  I think maybe some people think this applies only to people on bicycles?  Wrong thought: the rule is the same for everyone using the trail including walkers, runners, people with dogs and baby strollers.

So, what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy the fall on our beautiful rail trail!
