Rail Trail Spotter - September Sightings....

What have you seen on our rail trail?

We have a lovely rail trail right here in Hellertown that goes almost down to Coopersburg.  Have you walked, run or ridden a bike on it this summer? It is not too late to get out there and enjoy the shady areas, the sunny spots and all the green surrounding the trail.  And you get to see all the wildlife that lives or stops along the path.

Last week I spotted a pileated woodpecker flying overhead across the trail.  It was so big I thought it was some sort of duck at first sight.  Once it landed on a tree trunk I was able to properly identify it.  How exciting!  Early this week, I watched a small herd of deer crossing the trail including some fauns.  A family riding near me was very thrilled by this sighting.

I see lots of other birds like catbirds, Canada geese, mallard ducks, robins and even herons standing in the creek.  Of course there were squirrels and chipmunks scurrying across the trail all summer long.

Yesterday I spotted my first fully grown black walnut laying on the trail.  I guess fall is about here!  What have you spotted on our fabulous rail trail?
