More About Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company
Founded in 1929, Leithsville Volunteer Fire Company is located in Lower Saucon Township. Nicknamed the "Fightin' 61st" because of its designation as Northampton County's Station 61, Leithsville volunteers have historically worked closely with Lower Saucon's other volunteer fire companies--Se-Wy-Co, Southeastern and Steel City--as well as Hellertown's Dewey Fire Company No. 1. In early 2011 it was announced that Se-Wy-Co and Leithsville would merge companies, but before the merger was concluded an accident resulted in the destruction of the fire station on May 24, 2012. As of June 2012 the future of the Leithsville station remains undetermined. A large social hall adjacent to the fire company was not damaged, and continues to host breakfasts and other functions.
