Founded in 1898, Dewey Fire Company No. 1 is an all-volunteer fire company located in Hellertown. Dewey remains Hellertown's only fire company, although mutual aid agreements exist with Lower Saucon Township's four volunteer companies--Southeastern, Steel City, Leithsville and Se-Wy-Co--with whom Dewey members work closely.

Dewey's main purpose remains protecting the lives of borough residents whenever fire breaks out. Dewey is led by Hellertown Fire Chief Rick Delmore. The company's Assistant Chief is Matt Andree. A small museum featuring displays related to the history of firefighting in Hellertown is housed in the fire company's headquarters on Durham Street.
