Woman Allegedly Passed Bad Checks at Borough Shops

Police say Mary Schaller, 52, of Springfield Township, Bucks County, passed bad checks at Yeager's Pharmacy and Saylor's & Co. in Hellertown Monday morning.

Editor's Note: This story has been updated and corrected with additional information from the Hellertown Police Department.

Hellertown police say a Quakertown area woman gave bad checks to two borough businesses between Aug. 16 and Sept. 13, 2012.

Mary Schaller, 52, of 127 Hickon Road, Springfield Township is charged with theft by deception, receiving stolen property and bad checks.

According to court records, Schaller gave a check for $117 to Yeager's Pharmacy and another for $118 to Saylor's & Co., despite having insufficient funds in her bank account.

Police say Schaller told the arresting officer she had done the same thing to businesses in Lehigh and Bucks counties.

Schaller was arraigned Sept. 25 before on duty District Judge Gay Elwell in Easton, and released on her own recognizance.

A hearing for Schaller is scheduled in October, police said.
