Twitter Fueled Teen Girls' Fight, Police Say

Lower Saucon Township Police say a 17-year-old girl struck and pulled the hair of another 17-year-old girl at Saucon Valley High School Nov. 13.

Posts on the popular social media site Twitter provoked a fight between two teenage girls at Saucon Valley High School, police said in a press release Saturday.

According to authorities, the fight occured at about 9:05 a.m. on Nov. 13.

During the course of the fight, a 17-year-old girl struck another 17-year-old girl and pulled her hair, police said.

After officers were dispatched to the school, "it was determined that the fight started because of items posted on Twitter," police added.

One of the girls was cited for harassment.

Why are these kids using twitter while in school? (I was told by several kids in the class & my own child these girls tweet during class all the time). What are these kids learning? This school is sinking fast. We need new leadership all around.

Or maybe the kids who are allowed to tweet during class need new parents!

It doesn't say they used twitter in school. It says the fight, which happened in school, was due to items posted on twitter.

The IT people at SV should have Twitter and sites like this blocked from student use. They should only have access to educational website content.

I agree with you. We, as parents limit the computer , twitter, facebook ect. at home but the kids go to school and use it? I understand some teachers are texting so why are the kids not permitted to carry cell phones???? Ask your children, they can verify what goes on.SV is in desperate need of new leadership.

The fact that this is making news on the patch is rather sad... As to the point with twitter in the class room, an education is what you make of it. As a student at Saucon you can choose to pay attention and receive a great education from well trained staff. Or you can start fights on twitter, the choice is up to the student...
