Tips for Giving in the Season of Giving

Ready to Share Your Treasure & Time?

This is the time of year that many non-profit organizations are asking you and me for our time and treasure. How do you go about selecting an organization to receive one or both?

Consider some of the local charities in your community. These may include a food pantry, Salvation Army, American Red Cross, community action program,
homeless shelters, senior centers and churches that provide a holiday meal for those in need. Look for organizations that have low or no administrative costs so you can be sure the bulk of your financial contribution will go directly to support programs, services and - ultimately - people in need.

In addition to making a financial gift to your charity, consider giving of your time to ring a bell for the Salvation Army, help in a soup kitchen or visit the elderly or homebound.

Most importantly, involve members of your family - children, grandchildren - and friends. The more people who are giving of their time and treasure, the greater impact it will have on those who are in need at this time of year. You will brighten their holidays with hope and promise for the New Year.
