What's the Scariest Local Intersection? [Tell Us]

Chances are, if you live here, you drive around Hellertown and Lower Saucon Township a lot. Is there a Saucon Valley intersection you think is especially hazardous?

The Saucon Valley has more than a few intersections that can present problems for the most skillful of motorists.

For a variety of reasons--such as poor lines of sight, awkward turning radiuses, or simply due to antiquated design--navigating these intersections can be challenging, and that's especially true if they lack either stop signs or traffic lights.

Some of the intersections that in recent years have been identified as having issues include:

Some other intersections that could be considered problematic include:

  • Leithsville Road (Route 412) and Apples Church Road (Lower Saucon)
  • Leithsville Road (Route 412) and Flint Hill Road (Lower Saucon)
  • Friedensville Road and Meadows Road (Lower Saucon)
  • Skibo Road and Meadows Road (Lower Saucon)
  • Friedensville Road and Creek Road (Lower Saucon/Bethlehem)
  • Meadows Road, Springtown Hill Road and Route 412 (Lower Saucon)
  • Route 378 and Seidersville Road (Lower Saucon)
  • Cherry Lane and Main Street (Route 412) (Hellertown/Bethlehem)

Is there another intersection that concerns you? Tell us in the comments section, or tell us why you think one of the above-named crossroads should be upgraded.

I have to agree with John. Leithsville Rd. and Apple's Church Rd.
The visibility from Apple's Church Rd. is terrible, they need a light.

The above comments have already mentioned the one at Apples Church. However, there are two in Hellertown that should be changed to "No Turn on Red". These are Main St. @ Walnut -- Ever since the home on the SE corner erected the fence along Walnut, visibility is poor looking West before turning right from Northbound Main onto E.Walnut. The other is Penn @ Main Street -- again visibility is terrible when attempting a right turn on red to go from Penn North on Main. Both these intersections should be changed appropriately.

I'd have to go with Leithsville Road (Route 412) and Apples Church Road (Lower Saucon).

Tie: Meadows Road, Springtown Hill Road and Route 412 intersection (crazy 3-way alignment, if you can call it that) and the Rte. 412/ Apples Church Road intersection.

Meadow Rd/Rt 412/Springtown Hill rd wins hands down. Three roads converging on a corner, can not get much worse than that!. But the remedy is quite simple - make Meadows Rd one way west from 412 to the Meadows Bridge and two way the rest of the way. Very litle cost but an inconvience to locals like myself but it is best for the common good. The township might have do a traffic study to see if Walnut St could handle the additional traffic because of the one way.
