Senior Kelly Feher first played basketball as a kindergartner. She has always played the guard position and her first team was the Bethlehem South Side Stars sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club on Fourth Street.
Although the Panthers failed to achieve their season's goal of making the 2011 playoffs, Kelly recalls a highlight from last season that came in the Dec. 15, 2009 game at Notre Dame-Green Pond. Saucon Valley had not beaten NDGP since 2000, but on that night the Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Crusaders 55-45. The win was not only a team highlight, but also a career highlight for Feher, who scored 18 points.
Coach Craig Mogel describes Kelly as "a hard worker and a great kid who plays with an aggressive style, both offensively and defensively."
"I wish her well in her future endeavors," he added.
Kelly has been on the varsity team for three years and was a starter in both her junior and senior years. Mogel also coaches the Saucon Valley team in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) spring club league, and she has been a member of that team as well.
Last May Kelly was a helper at the 2010 Special Olympics at Liberty High School, where she was assigned an athlete who she helped and cheered for during the various events. She described this opportunity to help another athlete as "a good and very rewarding experience."
It just so happens that her favorite food is bacon, so helping to prepare and serve breakfast at her church--where she volunteers--is a perfect opportunity to munch on some!
When she's not busy volunteering, Kelly enjoys watching NBA basketball games--especially the Philadelphia 76ers, who are showing improvement under their new coach, Doug Collins.
Kelly said she's also enjoyed all the snow days this year, as they gave her some much needed time to catch up on sleep and extra time to complete her homework! She lists business and psychology courses as her favorites, and anticipates enrolling at a four-year school where she expects to pursue a business-related major.
Kelly has two older siblings, Megan and Ryan, and is the daughter of Frank and Sue Feher.
