Saucon Senior Matt Laub is a Triple Threat
As a running back and outside linebacker for the football team, a basketball team captain and shooting guard, and a baseball team outfielder and pitcher Matt Laub is an athletic force to be reckoned with.
Saucon senior Matt Laub credits his parents for introducing him to various sports at a young age. He began playing football in the Saucon Valley Youth Program as a third grader.
As a freshman he played JV football, and by the fourth game the running back/outside linebacker had his first start on Coach Matt Evancho's varsity squad, which he lists as his career highlight. He describes his entire Panther football experience as "a blast." Failing to make the playoffs would be his greatest disappointment. After he graduates, Matt expects to continue playing football at Delaware Valley College.
Laub played basketball through middle school, played two years of JV basketball and in his junior year started at shooting guard for coach Matt Brown's varsity team. One of his career highlights includes the Panthers' double OT win against Wilson in 2012. Until the final game in 2013, his high game score was 21 points against Wilson. However in his final game in February, Matt tallied 29 points to lead the Panthers to a thrilling 58-51 OT win against the visiting Palisades Pirates.
Coach Matt Brown had this to say about his player: "Matt is a two-year starter and was a team captain this past season. Matt is an outstanding leader who always gives 100 percent in practice and games. He will literally run through a wall for you and his efforts are always appreciated. We will miss that patented lefty drive in the years to come. Matt is a great teammate and an even better kid. Good luck!!"
And Coach Matt Evancho enthused the following: "Matt was a fantastic leader for the football team. There was never a day when Matt was not positive with the team. He is always upbeat. It will be very difficult to replace an individual like Matt."
As spring approaches, Matt will also be playing an outfield position for the Panther baseball team, when he is not pitching for the Panthers.
Matt said his role models are his parents and his coaches. "They have always taught me to do what is right and to do my best," he said.
History is his favorite subject, he likes to bowl and "hang out with friends." His favorite food is chocolate covered bacon.
Matt is a volunteer at the Special Olympics and helps coach Saucon Valley youth football, basketball and baseball teams.
He has an older sister, Courtney, and is the son of Gary and Jenn Laub.
