Hellertown Police say Russell J. Rodgers, 38, of the 9000 block of Briar Edge Road, New Tripoli, had marijuana in his pickup truck when he was stopped on Main Street Jan. 7.

A New Tripoli man has been charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, after Hellertown Police say he was stopped on Main Street Jan. 7 for allegedly operating a red Ford pickup truck with expired registration plates.

In a press release, police said Russell J. Rodgers, 38, of the 9000 block of Briar Edge Road, New Tripoli was stopped near Main and Durham streets at 5:26pm after police observed his expired plates while they were conducting routine traffic observation of northbound vehicles.

Inside Rodgers' truck, police say a clear plastic bag "that appeared to contain a controlled substance" was observed on the driver's side floor area.

That substance was later determined to be marijuana, police said, adding that drug paraphernalia was also allegedly found in Rodgers' vehicle.
