A new bench along the Saucon Rail Trail in Hellertown honors fallen Freemansburg police officer Robert Lasso, who was killed in the line of duty in August 2011.

The bench bears a plaque that states it is "In loving memory of Officer Robert A. Lasso: Husband, Father, Friend."

At Hellertown Borough Council's Feb. 6 meeting, director of public works Tom Henshaw told council that several of the green memorial benches were recently installed along the popular trail, where they will provide places of rest for walkers and joggers.

The bench in honor of Lasso is located along the section of trail that borders Water Street Park.
