Parent Prom Raises Almost $11,000 for Education

The Parent Prom, a "Red & Black Bash," was held March 4 at The Meadows to raise money for the Saucon Valley Foundation for Educational Innovation.

They arrived dressed in red and black and ready to show off their "wild" sides on the evening of Friday, March 4.

Who were these stylish partygoers and what were they up to?

Many are parents of Saucon Valley School District students, and they were attending the Second Annual Parent Prom, a "Red & Black Bash." The event was a fundraiser for the Saucon Valley Foundation for Educational Innovation, a nonprofit organization providing Saucon Valley students with educational resources beyond what is normally available through the use of public funds.

In the past the foundation has helped bring guest speakers and presentations into the schools, and in the future, it plans to help pay for the development of an environmental education center on the Saucon Valley School District campus.

Lisa Wright, Prom Chair and Marketing/PR Chair for the foundation, called the evening a complete success.

"The almost $11,000 we raised this year will be added to our general fund and will be used to continue funding teacher requested grants and to help fund the SVEEC (Saucon Valley Environmental Education Center)," Wright said.

The Parent Prom took place at The Meadows and included cocktails, dinner, a live band and music provided by a DJ. There was also a silent auction and raffle, which included one-of-a-kind mosaics made by seven Saucon Valley fourth graders, an autographed NFL football, two weekly ground passes to the 2011 U.S. Open Championship in Bethesda, Md., and even a Martin Martin DXME Dreadnought acoustic guitar.
