Obituary: William “Bill” S. Dunlap, Jr., 72, of Springfield Township
William "Bill" S. Dunlap, Jr., was surrounded by family when he died at his home in Springfield Township on Jan. 2, 2012.
William “Bill” S. Dunlap, Jr., 72, entered into eternal life with his Lord at his home in Springfield Township on Monday, Jan. 2, 2012. He was surrounded by his loving and caring wife of more than 49 years, Anne, and his family. He bravely battled cancer for the past two years. He remained President and CEO of his company, CDS, Inc., until his death.
Bill was a loving and devoted husband to Anne, and an exceptional father to the late William, III “Billy,” as well as to Cheryl Ann Dunlap wife of Georg Schlange of Las Vegas, Nev., Mary Elizabeth Dunlap of Springfield Township, and Shauna Barron, wife of Carols Barron of Houston, Tex. He was a very proud grandfather to Makena, Jordi, Alek William and Olivia.
He was the son of the late William S. and Sally Dunlap. He is also survived by his sister, Carol Coleman of Ashley.
Bill loved working in the electronics industry and began his career at Fairchild, Inc., before moving on to Teradyne, Inc., where he worked for more than 25 years until he started his company, CDS, Inc. He enjoyed working with some of technology’s greatest contributors. He was a man of his word and very respected in the electronics industry and in his personal life. He cherished the many friendships he made throughout his career and his life.
Bill loved good conversation with family, friends and even strangers. He was passionate about history and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with many. Knowing him was to love him. He loved nature and all its creatures. He was a strong proponent of education--and, having an inquisitive mind--of the saying “If one applies oneself, great things can happen.” His kind and giving heart touched so many through his generosity.
Bill attended the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Colesville, with his family. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force, where he was first educated in electronics. He was a member of the Hellertown Sportsmen’s Association.
Friends and family may call from 6 to 8pm Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012 and from 9:30 to 10:30am Friday at the Heintzelman Funeral Home, Inc. 326 Main St., Hellertown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at the church, 4101 Old Bethlehem Pike, (Colesville) Bethlehem.
