John C. Hershey Jr., 73, of Springtown, died Saturday, March 31, 2012.

John C. Hershey Jr., 73, of Springtown died Saturday, March 31, 2012 at St. Luke's University Hospital, Fountain Hill. He was the husband of Leona D. (Lorenzini) Hershey. He was born in Quakertown on April 4, 1938 to the late J. Clair and Pearl M. (Bodder) Hershey. He served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during peacetime. John was a self-employed building contractor in Springtown. He was a master carpenter in all facets of the building industry. He was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Springtown, where he was a choir member. John was a devoted and very giving person to his community, not limited to serving as past president of the Springfield Lions Club and being the recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award; past officer of the Springtown Cemetery Association; past officer at the Springfield Township Water Authority; past fire chief of the Springtown Volunteer Fire Company; member of the Zion Choral Society, Zion Hill; supporter of New Bethany Ministries, where he volunteered; and member of the GTO Pontiac Club. 

Survivors:

In addition to his loving wife of 51 years; children: John Christopher Hershey and his wife Suzanne of Springtown, Deborah Lee Hershey and dear friend Dawn E. Frey of Emmaus; brother: William J. Hershey and his wife Rosalie of Hellertown; granddaughters: Julianna and Emily Hershey.

Service:

A public memorial service will be held at 1pm Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the Springtown Volunteer Fire Company Social Hall, 3010 Rt. 212, Springtown. There will be no calling hours. Online expressions of sympathy can be recorded at www.heintzelmancares.com. Arrangements are by the , of Hellertown.
