Residents Encouraged to Complete Library Survey, Attend Upcoming Meeting

The Saucon Valley Library Task Force is currently studying the feasibility of consolidating library services between Lower Saucon Township and the Hellertown Area Library.

The Saucon Valley Library Task Force has been meeting for the past year to gather information concerning the feasibility of consolidating library services for Lower Saucon Township residents at the Hellertown Area Library. The township is currently a member of the Bethlehem Area Public Library (BAPL) system.

At the task force's Jan. 12 meeting, decisions regarding a public online survey that is now available were finalized. The short survey is primarily intended for residents of Hellertown and Lower Saucon to complete. Its purpose is to help the task force gather data regarding residents’ needs, preferences and current patterns of library usage.

For those who are uncomfortable with taking online surveys, paper copies of the survey are available at the Hellertown Area Library, 409 Constitution Ave., Hellertown, and at Lower Saucon Town Hall. There are also plans to make paper copies of the survey available at Hellertown Borough Hall, Manager Cathy Kichline announced at Hellertown Borough Council's Feb. 6 meeting.

Residents who are currently using the BAPL for their library needs may also see district librarian David Dunlap for further information. Dunlap was invited to consult with the task force in December.

The survey results will be gathered before a planned public meeting in the spring, at which the task force will discuss its findings and explain some of the different options available to Lower Saucon Township.

That meeting is tentatively scheduled for April 12 at 7pm. Hellertown and Lower Saucon residents are encouraged to attend and engage in the public discussion.

The next task force meeting will be held Thursday, Feb. 9 at 5pm in the Lower Saucon Township building.

I just completed the survey and it was very difficult to complete! You need to click on the left side of the circle/answer,not on the spot directly to make it work. Also, the survey does not permit you to respond that you use both libraries.

I encourage everyone to express their support of their choice. Many of us use libraries weekly and need to let the Task Force know how important this decision is to the patrons.

Thanks for your comment. I also had trouble. I did mention this last night at the SV Partnership meeting. The administration is aware of this and added a note and a link for a printable copy to the home page of the township's website [or call the Township office at (610) 865-3291.] good luck!
