Letter: We're in Trouble

Hellertown resident Lee A. Weidner says he sees evidence of moral decay in U.S. society.

When fat cat Republicans resist the Pennsylvania Democrats' attempts to outlaw speaking on cell phones while driving, we're in trouble. When fat cat Democrats wish to infringe on the Second Amendment, we're in trouble.

When both parties in PA cannot see the benefits of allowing local police to use radar to control speeds, we're in trouble.

Locally, when motorists refuse to allow pedestrians to cross the street when within a designated crosswalk, we're in trouble. When local gaming illegally continues unabated due to scoundrel distributors of such equipment, we're in trouble.

When Hellertown residents fail to pick up their dogs' feces in Dimmick Park, on sidewalks and along Rails to Trails, we're in trouble. When a senior citizen gloats that he refuses to stop for folks attempting to cross Water Street where it intersects with the rail trail, we're in trouble.

When mass killings take groups of innocent lives in the good 'ol USA due to lack of assistance in the mental health area, we're in trouble. When Iran continually threatens to push Israel into the sea, we're in trouble.

When our values and sense of personal responsibility diminish so drastically, we're in trouble. When faith in God goes away in the USA, we're in trouble.

When motion pictures and video games are rated Adult or Mature, and parents allow children to view or play them, we're in trouble.

Civilizations have come and gone due to moral decay, and when lack of concern for our fellow Americans vanishes, we're finished.

When it takes a horrible tragedy to generate a dialogue about banning assault weapons for civilians in our country, we are in big trouble.
When it takes a horrible tragedy to hear the president mention God, quote scripture and speak of prayer, we are in big trouble.

When Pedestrians refuse to abide by the law, we are in trouble.

§ 3542.
(b) Exercise of care by pedestrian.--No pedestrian shall
suddenly leave a curb or other place of safety and walk or run
into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute a
hazard.

When people actively attempt "suicide-by-car," we are in trouble. This occurs when people are so self-righteous that they seek to be hit by a car, allowing their tombstone to read, "Killed in a Marked Crosswalk."

Oh good, it's been a while since we've had a "I miss the good ole days" story,
