Allentown's Thom Browne Designs Michelle Obama Inauguration Coat and Dress

Fashion designer Thom Browne, who grew up in Allentown, designed the navy silk coat and dress First Lady Michelle Obama wore Monday to the presidential inauguration ceremony.

Fashion designer Thom Browne, who grew up in Allentown, designed the outfit First Lady Michelle Obama wore at Monday's presidential inauguration ceremony.

Browne, a noted menswear designer who recently lauched a womenswear collection, designed a silk navy coat and dress that drew inspiration from a man's silk jacquard tie and the First Lady herself, he told the Los Angeles Times.

The coat had a fitted bodice and skirt that skimmed over a dress of navy, loden, gray, pink and white jacquard.

"She has a really strong sensibility and style of her own," Browne said in the article.

Browne, who graduated from William Allen High School in 1984, is the brother of state Sen. Pat Browne, (R-16th District).

Obama has apparently worn a Browne design before, a gray, short-sleeve dress with a black lace overlay, which she wore at the final presidential debate in October, according to New York magazine.

We must be looking at different people. I find her to be completely unattractive. She looked HUGE! and II don't know who told her that hairstyle was flattering...it was horrible! She needs to talk to Byonce's people. Michele is one ugly lady!

What a horrible thing to say Michelle Obama is a well educated successful black woman. To her husband, children and family she is beautiful; contrary to what you might think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Michelle has and inter beauty outshine most. What one looks like on the outside does not determine one character. She is attractive.

Sorry if MY opinion offends you. Watching her hunched over her lunch eating like a cow and sneering at John Boehner isn't attractive to me...sorry! Her daughters are beautiful and they looked stunning. I stick to m opinion about Michele though. Also, you say how someone looks doesn't matter....I was only responding to the post which stated that she looked stunning! The fact that you had to say BLACK woman and not just woman says a lot about you. Maybe you are a little subjective.

We NOW know where you're coming from, Ann. ("Sneering at John Boehner") just gave you away. Now, we know it's not just your "opinion" but your blatant hatred for any Democrat.

That's a sweeping statement. I don't hate all democrats. Half my family are democrats. I used to be a democrat before it was hijacked by left wing wackos reaching their fists in my pockets! Unlike you libs, republicans don't hate everyone in the other party! That sneer was classless no matter what side of the isle you're on. If you don't see that, you are just as ignorant!

You don't hate all Democrats, Ann? One would wonder after reading your many posts here on the Patch. Oh, and I left the Republican party too....after it left me when the right-wing wackos took over the party. You know, the ones who *think* they can take womens rights away and legislate who does what is whos bedroom?

Frank, hate to tell you but I was my hometown queen and homecoming queen back in the day. I don't judge people by their looks normally, I m just s sick of people having blinders on when it comes to the Obamas. She is NOT an attractive woman...sorry...just a fact! Look at the picture above...just saying!

Like I said, phillyboy, uneducated. "You must have been a flunkie were reading comprehesion was concerned". Now tell me how that sentence makes sense. Were? Really? And my mother deserved the choice like any other woman. I laugh at you so-called pro life conservative idiots. While mostly men, you seek to control womens bodies yet could care less about family planning, or any sort of assistance when a child is born. Face it, you're not pro-life, you and your ilk are just pro-birth. As far as guns, the 2nd amendment say's nothing about semi-automatic weapons. And the NRA crowd (small as they are) will never convince most parents that loading up schools with guns is going to make anyone safer.

This post speaks volumes about you why would I not call her a well educated BLACK women that what she is. Of course you as entitled to your opinion as am I. The fact that our opinions differ is of little importance. Michelle Obama is one classy lady she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of many. This lovely lady will be in the history books. Michelle Obama is a force to be reckoned I am very proud of her and all of her accomplishment. Ann what have you accomplished? You have such a negative attitude toward this lady. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder your definition of beauty differs from mine. She is without a doubt a very lovely lady. To your response I am in no way subjective maybe you should look in the mirror as your post speaks volumes . As for her hair no one really cares she apparently love it as well as the media I thought it was different yet sophisticated which is what Michelle Obama is. Have a good evening Ann. These are just our opinions.

Velvet, relax. Obviously I hit a nerve. The fact that we have different opinions IS important to you as you keep on insisting she is a classy, educated, stunning lady. I completely disagree. Also, I don't go around saying Hilary Clinton is one educated white woman. Obviously your opinion is slanted because you are black. You are entitled to be proud that we have a black First Family. I think we could have done a much better job than the Obamas. History will be less kind to Obama. The rose colored classes will disappear. That's all I'm saying. And don't go calling me a racist because God knows that's next. I disagree with Obama's policies and I really do think Michele is unattractive. End of story!

Wallst, it's funny how you all need to judge me and you don't even know me. Old and ugly....libs throw out insults without proof or fact. At least I am making a JUDGEMENT on what I SEE! You just throw out insults because someone has a different opinion. I am so offended, I think I will shed a tear because you said I am old and ugly...oh well...at least you didn't call me fat! Lol

At the risk of being on topic (I know how everyone hates that) - I thought the coat ensemble by Thom Browne was stunning. And I loved the Jason Wu inaugural ball gown as well.

I am not a fan of her new hairstyle, but then again...it's not my hair. All in all, she looked splendid and her daughters were dressed beautifully as well.

Pamela, I agree that the pieces were beautiful, I just didn't think it complimented her. The beautiful red gown she wore in the evening DID look stunning and the softer wispy hair looked much better! I certainly didn't mean to cause the uproar I obviously caused by stating that the day look didn't work for me! Her daughters always look beautiful! They are always impressive in the style and grace.

I am not a fan of Michelle's style. That said, those who are, good for you.
To me, she always looks like she is trying so hard to make a statement. Truly styled women, don't look like they are trying, they just look so put together Thought the children looked great. Thought Michelle's coat was not pretty at all. The red dress from far away looked striking. Up close, not so much. I don't like her bangs either. Don't do her justice. It's too cute a look for a more sophisticated pretty woman.

It is sad the amount of money that was spent on this event that the Obama's attended. One thing is certain, people need to focus on the fact that Mr. Obama's agenda is socialist at best. Yes, he is taking away the constitution one right at a time.

some people leaving comments make the case for the landslide loss. Obviously, they are part of the group of people in this country that have no backing of any of their statements, no facts etc. Furthermore, they post things like "socialist" without knowing the meaning of the term, even if their definition would be that every single President of the USA would then be a "socialist". If its not that, then they are just so filled with hypocrisies, it is too easy to pick them apart. Keep living in the bubble, America will move on with or without you.
